General Proprieties

Alloy 400 (UNS N04400) is a single phase, solid-solution nickel-copper alloy that offers superior resistance to many corrosive environments over temperatures ranging from sub-zero to 427° C. This alloy is only hardenable through cold working, rather than heat treatment. The Curie Temperature of this alloy lies in the ambient temperature range and is affected by variations in the alloy’s chemical composition. Caution is advised in applications where strong nonmagnetic characteristics are desired. The ratio of copper to nickel in alloy 400 is almost identical to that found in the ore the metal is derived from. Common applications of Alloy 400 are: Feedwater and steam generator tubes in power plants, Brine heater and recompression evaporator in saltworks, Sulfuric and hydrofluoric acid alkylation, Heat exchangers in the chemical industry, Plating components for mineral oil distillation plants, Splash zone lining on offshore platforms, Impellers and pump shafts in marine technology, Refining plants for the production of nuclear fuel, Pumps and valves in production lines for tetrachlorethylene (perchlorethylene) and chlorinated plastics, Heating tubes for monoethanolamine (MEA), Sour-gas resistant components for oil and gas production This alloy is also know as Monel® 400. Alloy 400 is available at CHUN & VOLLERIN in these formats: Bars, Plates, Stripes.
